LETTER: The optimal choice for governor is Patrick Knight
It goes without saying, but I will say it anyway. We have many exemplary candidates for governor who would serve Minnesotans in a most professional manner, but Patrick Knight stands out as a premier leader in every field of endeavor.

Patrick Knight: Minnesota is losing the fundamentals — it’s time to fix them
“For decades, Minnesota was widely regarded as one of America’s best-run states. Many still cling to that reputation. But reputation is not performance, and on the fundamentals, Minnesota is in decline,” writes Patrick Knight.
The fundamentals matter.
Anyone who has played sports, run a business, or served in the military understands this truth. Excellence comes from disciplined focus on what matters most, done consistently over time.

Republican candidates talk fraud, state economy in gubernatorial primary debate
Knight was arguably the most well-spoken candidate of the evening, delivering clear answers that focused on the need to jump-start Minnesota’s economy. He spoke often about his time as a CEO and warned that Minnesota has become uncompetitive and driven businesses away.
Knight said the best way to improve Minnesota healthcare is to create better jobs that offer good healthcare. He also spoke about the declining education standards in public schools and said Minnesota needs to prioritize “mastery” over “participation” in classrooms.

Patrick Knight: Why so much fraud in Minnesota?
Minnesota is dealing with the largest public fraud scandal in its history. Thanks to the U.S. Attorney’s Office and state legislators, the scope of these abuses is finally coming into focus. The indictments keep multiplying, the dollar amounts keep rising, and reverberations reach Washington, D.C. and beyond.
How did Minnesota get here?
The state improperly disbursed…

Patrick Knight: Let’s reignite Minnesota’s economic engine
If we want to build a future of prosperity and opportunity, we need to re-commit to growing the economic engine that sustains us.
We are a 100-person manufacturing company based in Minnesota, competing with firms across the country. Businesses like ours account for 1.3 million Minnesota jobs—about half of all employment in the state. Those jobs, in turn, help fund the state budget through the taxes our employees and businesses pay.

Readers Write: The First Amendment, fraud investigations, Capitol security, Minnesota businesses
I must take issue with the Sunday column in the Minnesota Star Tribune written by staff writer Karen Tolkkinen regarding individuals who film others in public spaces (“No need to test the right to be terrible”). In her piece, she labels these individuals as “jerks,” simply for exercising a constitutional right — their First Amendment right to record in public.
Whether or not one agrees with the motivations of those who record in public spaces…

Patrick Knight: For Labor Day, an ode to Minnesota workers
Here is to Minnesota’s workers — native-born and immigrant, rural and urban, white-collar and blue.
From factories to farms, from production lines to professional offices, Minnesota workers bring a combination of determination, education, and reliability. In our state, hard work is not just expected – it is a badge of honor.
I remember one snowy morning arriving early to shovel the entrance to our building. To my surprise, two co-workers were already there, shoveling quietly. No one asked them to. They were not paid extra. They just saw what needed to be done and did it. That same ethic plays out in every corner of the state, every day…

Patrick Knight: What’s the plan if our expansive new family-leave law doesn’t work as imagined?
In 2023, Minnesota enacted the most expansive paid family and medical leave (PFML) law in the country. Starting Jan. 1, 2026, nearly all workers will be eligible for up to 20 weeks of partially paid leave each year — with wage replacement rates as high as 90% for lower-income employees. The benefit will be funded through a statewide insurance program, paid for by a new payroll tax, with employers covering at least half the cost.
Other states have adopted PFML programs, but none go as far…
